One of the first questions when developing an indoor playground is:

How many square metres do we need?

It sounds like a simple property question.

It is actually a business-model question.

A 400 m² toddler-focused play centre can be a completely different business from a 400 m² interactive active-play venue.

A 1,000 m² soft-play centre can operate very differently from a 1,000 m² multi-attraction FEC containing climbing, trampolines, digital attractions, birthday rooms and a café.

The correct size therefore does not begin with a universal number.

Projects can be smaller or much larger.

The more useful question is:

How much space does this particular business need to serve its customers properly and operate efficiently?

1. THERE IS NO UNIVERSAL MINIMUM SIZE

There is no single correct minimum floor area for an indoor playground.

Different concepts can succeed at completely different scales.

A compact concept may focus on:

A larger venue may combine:

The planning exercise should not begin by allocating all 1,000 m² to equipment.

The exact allocation depends on the business model.

Where does the layout fail?

Peak-period simulation can reveal more than a static floor plan.

If the business plan assumes 300 customers during peak periods, the property must actually support them operationally.

Do not sign a property and later attempt to force the financial model into it.
